The Westreich Foundation is committed to education and research in the nonprofit sector
The Westreich Foundation is committed the healthy growth of nonprofits and philanthropy by creating collaborations that work and encouraging consensus building among the key stake holders in the nonprofit arena. The global nonprofit community is the sixth largest economy in the world far surpassing that of most countries.
The philanthropic burden of making wise granting choices in a focused area of nonprofit requires education and a continuing commitment to growing a healthy and vibrant nonprofit community locally, nationally and globally.
The Westreich Foundation works tirelessly to accomplish this by supporting the University of San Diego’s Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research providing upper level nonprofit director’s with a master’s degree, a doctoral component and a
valued nonprofit research center in San Diego. In just ten short years, this jewel of a program has gained a national reputation in education and research excellence.
The Westreich Foundation is also committed to helping create a paradigm shift in the way medical care is delivered in this country.
Transforming healthcare means moving the boundaries of the existing field of medicine to include the wisdom inherent in healing the "whole person"—mind, body and spirit. It means educating practitioners and their teams to make use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches in the care of their patients and shifting the focus of the healthcare system to include prevention, health maintenance and early intervention.
The Westreich Foundation supports an integrative and palliative approach to health and wellbeing. Read more about Integrative Medicine and Palliative Medicine. We also believe that the creative arts can be a very powerful healing component by itself or when used in conjunction with other healing disciplines to alleviate pain and also a humanistic component in death and dying.
